Blended MBA in India 2026: IIM Nagpur, IIM Mumbai & Other IIMs Compared

A Blended MBA combines two modes of learning: live, instructor-led online sessions delivered through an interactive learning platform, and mandatory on-campus immersion modules held at the institute itself. The curriculum is structured with 480 hours of core coursework in the first year, followed by 300 hours of electives and 60 hours of project work in the second year, giving participants a strong general-management foundation before they specialise.

What genuinely sets this programme apart is its admission route. Instead of insisting on a valid CAT, GMAT, or GRE score, IIM Nagpur conducts its own entrance test — the IIMNAT — covering Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, and Logical Reasoning. Candidates apply, get shortlisted, and appear for the test directly, which removes a significant barrier for working professionals without a recent competitive-exam score.

Eligibility requires a minimum of 50% marks in graduation and at least three years of post-academic work experience. The total programme fee currently stands at Rs.12.10 lakh, and a minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory to remain in good standing. Graduates receive their MBA degree at IIM Nagpur’s annual convocation — the same credential category as the institute’s full-time residential programme.

IIM Mumbai’s Blended Post Graduate Programme in Management — MBA-BPGP — extends the institute’s strong legacy in operations and industrial management (built on its NITIE heritage) to working professionals seeking a full MBA in blended format. The programme was launched in partnership with Jaro Education to help mid-career professionals upskill without pausing their careers.

The curriculum spans over 1,200 hours of instruction across two years, covering Operations, Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, Data Science, Environment, and Human Resources, with the option to specialise in a chosen domain during the second year. Delivery combines live online sessions with two mandatory one-week on-campus immersion modules — one mid-programme and one at completion.

Admission requires a bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST/PwD candidates) and a minimum of three years of work experience after graduation. Candidates need a valid CAT, GMAT, GRE, or IIM Mumbai Admission Test (IMAT) score from within the last five years, followed by a personal interview. Notably, the programme also allows flexibility beyond the standard two-year track — participants get up to five years to complete it if needed.

IIM Mumbai is currently ranked 6th in the NIRF 2025 rankings, and MBA-BPGP graduates receive full IIM Mumbai alumni status. For professionals based in or near Mumbai, or those drawn to the institute’s strong general-management and analytics-driven curriculum, this is a natural entry point into the Blended MBA category.

IIM Lucknow’s bMBA is designed for ambitious professionals and entrepreneurs with a minimum of three years of full-time work experience after graduation, along with at least 50% aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA. Unlike IIM Nagpur, it accepts CAT, GRE, or GMAT scores valid within the last five years, or candidates can appear for IIM Lucknow’s own bMBA entrance exam. The total fee is around Rs.14.95 lakh — noticeably higher than IIM Nagpur’s. The programme is still in its early batches, and its on-campus immersion structure is comparatively less established than more mature offerings like IIM Nagpur’s. 

IIM Ahmedabad’s two-year BPGP follows an 80:20 delivery split — roughly 80% of learning happens through live online classes, with the remaining 20% delivered through immersive, week-long, in-person campus modules. Eligibility requires 15 years of prior education and a minimum of three years of full-time work experience after graduation. Candidates need a valid CAT, GMAT, or GRE score (within five years) or must clear IIMA’s own admission test (IAT). As one of IIMA’s flagship extensions into working-professional education, BPGP retains the institute’s signature case-based pedagogy and academic rigour, drawing on the same faculty resources as its PGP and PGPX programmes. 

IIM Kozhikode has run executive education through its Interactive Learning model since 2001, and its two-year EPGP at the Kochi campus is one of the more established blended MBA offerings among IIMs. The programme delivers 750+ contact hours through a mix of online interactive sessions and three mandatory one-week campus immersion modules, with an optional international immersion component in some batches. Admission requires clearing the Executive Management Aptitude Test (EMAT), or candidates can submit a valid CAT, GRE, or GMAT score (not older than three years). Fees vary by track — roughly Rs.15.5–15.95 lakh for the EPGP, and Rs.12.22–13.22 lakh for the related MBA for Working Executives programme. The programme is delivered via the TimesPro technology platform.

IIM Visakhapatnam’s EMBA is explicitly run “in a blended mode” through its Interactive Learning platform, combined with two campus immersion modules of five days each. The two-year, six-term programme covers 740 hours of learning across core management domains — marketing, finance, economics, HR, operations, and strategy — plus entrepreneurship and data-led decision-making, culminating in a second-year capstone project. Eligibility requires a bachelor’s degree with 50% marks and at least three years of work experience. Candidates can appear for the institute’s own EMAT or submit a valid CAT, GRE, or GMAT score to skip it. At Rs.11.90 lakh, this is currently the most affordably priced Blended MBA among the seven programmes compared here. IIM Visakhapatnam also admits two batches a year — in May and December — giving applicants more flexibility on timing than most other IIMs.

IIM Jammu’s EMBA is also delivered in blended mode and requires a minimum of three years’ work experience. The two-year programme blends on-campus and off-campus learning modules and is aimed specifically at experienced professionals — from industry, corporates, government organisations, armed and paramilitary forces, NGOs, and entrepreneurs. Admissions and programme delivery are supported through the institute’s executive education partner platform, and the programme has run multiple batches with published batch profiles for recent cohorts.

For professionals without a recent CAT, GMAT, or GRE score, IIM Nagpur’s dedicated IIMNAT removes a barrier that most other IIMs — including IIM Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, and Kozhikode — don’t fully eliminate, since they still require or strongly prefer a valid competitive-exam score. Its flexible up-to-five-year completion window is also worth considering for those with unpredictable work schedules.

If budget isn’t the deciding factor and brand weight matters more, IIM Ahmedabad’s BPGP or IIM Kozhikode’s EPGP carry significant institutional pull, though at a meaningfully higher fee and, in IIM Kozhikode’s case, three mandatory immersions instead of two or four. IIM Visakhapatnam stands out on pure affordability at Rs.11.90 lakh, along with its twice-yearly intake cycle — useful if your ideal start date doesn’t line up with a single annual admission window. IIM Jammu is worth a look for professionals from government, defence, or NGO backgrounds, given its stated focus on those sectors.

Ultimately, the right choice comes down to three questions: do you already have a valid CAT/GMAT/GRE score, how much campus travel can you realistically commit to, and where does your budget cap out. Mapping these three factors against all seven programmes before applying can save considerable time, money, and rework later.

IIM Nagpur stands out for its accessible, dedicated entrance route and competitive fee, while IIM Mumbai brings a strong operations and general-management legacy to professionals who want an IIM degree without leaving their jobs. Whichever programme you shortlist, the decision should rest on three practicalities — eligibility fit, entrance requirements, and how the immersion schedule aligns with your career and personal commitments — rather than brand name alone.
