It’s not a glamorous job description — but for candidates who want a clean, stable, genuinely balanced central government career, Auditor and Accountant deliver exactly that.
Promotion path: Auditor → Senior Auditor → Audit Officer (via departmental exam)
13. Tax Assistant — Level 4 | CBDT / CBIC
The entry-level post of the SSC CGL jobs list. Starting basic pay is ₹25,500, which is the lowest on the list — but the upgrade path is clear and achievable.
You handle data entry, tax return processing, refund management, and administrative support in tax offices. The work is structured, the environment is professional, and the departmental exam route from Tax Assistant → Senior Tax Assistant → Inspector is well-established.
