Quick Comparison: IIM Nagpur vs IIM Lucknow Blended MBA at a Glance
About the Two Programmes
Detailed Comparison: Factor by Factor
Which Programme Should You Choose? Decision Framework
Two IIMs. Two blended MBA programmes. Both designed for working professionals who want an IIM degree without quitting their jobs. But they are not the same programme — and choosing the wrong one for your profile could cost you two years and significant money.
This is a factual, side-by-side comparison of the IIM Nagpur Blended MBA for Working Professionals and the IIM Lucknow bMBA (blended MBA). We cover fees, eligibility, entrance test, NIRF ranking, campus structure, and the key differences that should drive your decision.
IIM Nagpur is a government-established IIM, founded in 2015. The Blended MBA for Working Professionals is in its second batch (2026-2028), making it an established programme with a track record. It is delivered through live online sessions three times a week, combined with 4 mandatory campus immersions at the IIM Nagpur campus in Nagpur.
The programme awards a full MBA degree — not a certificate or a diploma — directly by IIM Nagpur. It is designed specifically for working professionals who cannot take a career break.

IIM Lucknow bMBA (blended MBA)
IIM Lucknow is one of the older IIMs, established in 1984, and is consistently ranked in the top 10 management institutions in India (NIRF Rank #6 in 2025). The blended MBA (bMBA) is a newer offering — launched in 2025 for its first batch — designed for working professionals and entrepreneurs.
The bMBA awards a full MBA degree from IIM Lucknow. It is delivered in a blended format with live online classes and immersive on-campus modules at IIM Lucknow’s campus in Lucknow.
IIM Lucknow is ranked #6 in India in the NIRF Management rankings (2025), making it one of the most recognised IIM brands in the country. IIM Nagpur is ranked #25 — strong, but with a different market perception.
What this means for you: IIM Lucknow’s brand carries more weight in large corporates and at the top end of the job market, particularly for lateral moves into senior leadership. IIM Nagpur’s brand is growing and well-recognised, with particular strength in central India, BFSI, and manufacturing sectors.
If brand name alone is the decision criterion and you can meet IIM Lucknow’s admission requirements, the higher rank is a real advantage. But brand alone should not drive this decision — read on.
IIM Nagpur is meaningfully more affordable. The Rs.2.85-3.7 lakh difference is significant but should be weighed against the NIRF rank differential and your specific career context.
3. Entrance Test and Admission Difficulty
This is one of the biggest practical differences between the two programmes.
IIM Nagpur uses its own IIMNAT — a purpose-built test for the blended MBA, covering Verbal Ability, Quantitative Ability, and Logical Reasoning. No prior exam score is required. You simply apply, get shortlisted, and appear for the test.
IIM Lucknow accepts CAT / GRE / GMAT (valid within last 5 years) OR its own bMBA entrance exam (July 12, 2026). If you have a valid CAT score above the cutoff, the IIM Lucknow path is straightforward. If you don’t — and most working professionals don’t have a recent CAT score — you need to appear for their bMBA exam, which is less established than IIMNAT.
PRACTICAL ADVANTAGE: IIM Nagpur’s IIMNAT is the simpler and more accessible path for working professionals who have not recently appeared for CAT. No prior exam score required whatsoever.
4. Campus Immersions and Format
Both programmes are blended — live online sessions combined with in-person campus modules.

5. Programme Maturity
IIM Nagpur’s Blended MBA is now in its second batch. Batch 1 graduates are already in the market, which means there is a visible alumni network, employer familiarity with the credential, and documented post-completion outcomes.
IIM Lucknow’s bMBA launched its first batch in 2025. It is backed by a much stronger overall IIM Lucknow alumni network, but the bMBA-specific track record — post-completion salaries, employer perception of the blended degree specifically — is still being established.
